I am at a great disappointment. I heard briefly on the news this morning that a major insurance company is going to raise healthcare premiums. Although I knew it would happen, I was hoping not. Isn't it hard enough that taxes and everything else that we have to do to survive is hard enough? They say jobs are starting to look up for some. But really, what's the use. If we with jobs have to pay these high premiums, we will surely have to do without something else major in our lives. Hooray for WALLSTREET! THEY GOT IT LIKE THAT!! What about us! THE LITTLE PEOPLE THAT DON"T MAKE WALLSTREET MONEY?! Where I live, there's not even give and take. Just take. We work hard to survive. The harder we work the higher our bills get. Rent is so high people can't afford it. O.K. a healthcare bill passed.  But why do we have to wait so long? It goes into effect in a year. What about the people that needs it now. Was’t that the point? I have someone in my family who has worked hard all her life. Now she is sick. No insurance!! She may not be here next year. You'd better believe that when this company rates go up, others are going to follow. When the time comes for this bill to go into effect, the rates are going to be so expensive that we will not be able to afford it. I am so hurt that to have a bill pass and to have to wait a year for it to go into effect is proproperous. I would really like to get some feedback on this one.

The Foster Care System

July 9, 2009
I have a serious concern about our children in foster care.
When children are removed from their homes, and are placed with families and/or individuals to love and take care of them, part of our responsibilities is to look out for their best interests. I’m finding out it does not always work out that way. Today, our children are deprived. No one really talks about the foster care system and the children that are placed in our homes. We do, however hear when a child is returned home and something bad happens because someone failed to do their job. Well, I am a foster parent and I am willing to speak out for these children’s interests. Children are removed from their homes for various reasons. When that happens, they are with strangers. It is a challenge and a blessing for both foster parents and the children. We try to help the children until the parents are ready to take them back into their homes. Because of the economy and cutbacks, these children are being deprived of things that they should be doing. I have a ten year old and a twelve year old. My twelve year old is being deprived from day camp because the economy is so bad. This child will be sitting at home for the remainder of the summer because no one is willing to stand up and fight for him. I understand the economy. We all feel it. But I also feel as though these children are going to be suffering and they have no idea why. We need to look at this in a realistic way for our children. They have been taken away from his/her family.
They have been with us for awhile and are comfortable. They have made a bond with us. They feel safe and secure. It’s always a waiting game because they don’t know when their world is going to change again. They have
excelled in school. Now that school is out for the summer, their reward is basically 0. Foster care is telling me that because of budget cuts, he can only go to camp for two weeks. Then he would have to stay home for the rest of the summer. I thought the system was designed to help these children who have already lost so much. What are we as foster parents to do? It hurts to see this happen. We do what we can for our children, but unfortunately we cannot afford to pay for summer camp. So for once, I think we need to look out for our children. Our children need to be active. They need to be able to socialize and interact with their peers. What kind of message are we really sending them? Please let’s stand up and do a little bit better for our children. It would be such a shame to see that after they put so much work to better themselves, they feel unworthy. I believe the government should be a little bit more concerned about what happens to these children. We must remember that once a child has excelled, he should be rewarded. And for these children to be deprived is an awful thing to happen to them. These children are our future for generations to come. I think the government should really do something for them to let them know that they are worth something to our country. As I stated earlier, I know the economy is bad but our future is truly at the hands of our children. I’m not blaming our caseworkers, social workers, law guardians or the court system. I think the government should really give some thought as how help our children to grow and succeed.
